The Bendigo Academy of Sport’s inaugural Girls’ Breakfast was held today at La Trobe University to promote girls in sport and the State Government program of “This Girl Can”.

Ten of the Academy’s girls from a range of sports, attended and were provided with an inspiring presentation by Academy Alumni – Piper Dunlop. Piper is the youngest member of the Bendigo Spirit Basketball team and part of the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program [LEAP].

Piper was initially in the Academy netball program in 2016 & 2017. In 2018 Piper became an individual athlete with basketball as her sport of choice.

Whilst in the Academy, Piper was part of a selected group of athletes who attended the Elite S&C program at La Trobe which involved 3rd year Exercise Science placement students.

Piper’s insight to in being a young athlete growing up in Bendigo and the opportunities that are available, provided the girls with an athlete’s perspective. Emphasis was also placed on ensuring you gain a solid education and how to fit it in with your sport’s pathway.

Thank you Piper and we will look forward to following your career.
