A surprise visit to BAS Volleyball training by Volleyroos Star – Lauren Cox provided the athletes with a wonderful opportunity to listen, watch and ask questions about Lauren’s pathway to the top.
Lauren was typical of many junior athletes – playing lots of different sports, but volleyball wasn’t one of them. Basketball and Netball were her sports of choice, however when she enrolled at Girton Grammar she had to select a co-curricula activity to do, so she joined the volleyball squad.
It wasn’t long after that the BAS coaches noticed a talented youngster playing at the Bendigo Volleyball Association and she was invited to trial for the BAS Volleyball Squad in 2015. At that time Lauren was 177.5 cm tall [tall for her age], she is now 193cm and plays centre, being the tallest player in the Volleyroos.
Not only does Lauren represent Australia but has played in the French League and this year will be playing in Finland. Next week she will be representing Australia in New Zealand.
Volleyball has provided Lauren with many wonderful opportunities of which she is very grateful. Lauren is currently completing her Exercise Science degree for a career after volleyball.
We thank Lauren for taking the time to return to where her volleyball career started.
