Hi Everyone,

Trusting everyone is keeping healthy and staying safe whilst we all work through the challenges that confront us.

The “Academy” is getting the sports programs back on track with training re-commencing in a slow but measured fashion. We rely on the advice from the Victorian and Federal governments along with weighing up risk factors that we feel are relevant at the time.

As we have all noticed things can change quickly so the academy will continue to remain flexible and make calls in the best interest and safety of our young athletes.

The support and advice we receive from the Victorian Institute of Sport and Sport Recreation Victoria has been invaluable.

Now is not the time to be complacent, as is evidenced by Greater Melbourne, Mitchell Shire and Colac.

Yesterday Bendigo had a couple of people tested positive. The cases relate to a local independent secondary college [Catholic College Bendigo – both campuses] and an independent primary school [St Joseph’s Quarry Hill]. These schools are closed for deep cleaning today and tomorrow and I believe the students will work remotely until Monday 10th Aug.

The AFL Central and Bendigo Basketball has cancelled all training and matches until further notice.

As some of our athletes are students at the said secondary college, we are taking every precaution possible and strictly following the recommendations of Department of Health and Human Services [DHHS].

We hope that all students, staff and families connected with these schools remain healthy and safe.

Greater Melbourne and Mitchell Shire:

Recently, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has published updated guidelines for sport and exercise in areas outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire.

Restrictions

As of midnight, on Sunday 3rd August all people in regional Victoria will be required to wear masks / face coverings when out and about. At this stage we do not know the full details of how this may affect our proposed training sessions.

The following link will keep everyone up to date with the latest restrictions as the state government updates.

Note: If you or a family member feels unwell, you should stay at home. If you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, you should get tested.

Tennis Squad:

The next Tennis session is scheduled for Sunday 9th August at Bendigo with a follow up session on Sunday 23rd August.

Having just listened to Premier Andrews comments about the local government areas in the Geelong region may impact the availability of our coach Matt Hicks coming to Bendigo for training sessions.

We will keep everyone updated as we know more.

Clay Target Squad:

The Clay Target squad had their final training session on Sunday 26th July. All but one athlete was able to attend – due to them residing in the Mitchell Shire.  We wish Morgan and his family all the best and continued good health during the lockdown period.

The 2020-21 Clay Target program will commence in Sept/Oct. All current athletes will be invited back, and additional expressions of interest sought from all local Clay Target Clubs.

Netball Squads:

Bendigo Squad – This squad was due to commence this Sunday but due to a positive COVID case connected to two Bendigo schools we decided to postpone this session.

The academy felt that in the interests of health and safety this was the prudent decision even though none of our athletes, their families or our coaches were directly involved.

The next planned session is Sunday 16th August. This will be subject to change at short notice.

North-East Squad – information will be forwarded out shortly regarding you next session [proposed for Sunday 16th August]
