Welcome to our BAS Update #2, hopefully everyone has been keeping well and enjoying the online school program.

COVID-19

Hopefully we are closer to some restrictions being lifted. It is great to see that elective surgery is about to resume, not only for the patients but also for all the health workers who are required in this area.

On May 11th the state government will be re-assessing the current restriction around sport so we will know more around that date.

At this point in time we are all still under social isolation restrictions, so it is important to adhere to this. This will greatly assist in getting your sports back and running.

S&C FOR ALL SPORTS

Jess Radford [BAS fitness co-ordinator – Exercise Physiologist] has developed a home-based fitness program with video links to demonstrate the various exercises.

This was forwarded out to all athletes on Wednesday. I will also add it to our webpage and facebook pages.

If you maintain your fitness levels it will be easier to resume your sport.

VICTORIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORT

“NUTRITION TIPS FOR ISOLATION”

A copy of the this was emailed to the athletes on 24th April. It will provide some valuable information to you and your families.

We thank the VIS staff for providing this valuable document to all the Regional Academies of Sport.

The section on “Safe Supplement Use” is highlighted in red as I could not delete it from the article. As a young athlete you do not require supplements so please disregard this section.

What does it take to succeed?

Take a few minutes to watch this short video. It may inspire you to set the alarm just that little bit earlier!!!!

ANZAC DAY – Saturday 25th April

Don’t forget that Saturday 25th April is ANZAC Day – a time to remember the sacrifices that the men and women of Australia made just over 100 years ago.

During this time of COVID – 19 it is important to remember that the sacrifices we are being asked to make today are very small compared to our servicemen and women.

Stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely

Graham Gordon
