Congratulations to Asher Jones [Individual athlete  – athletics] on his award earlier in the week.

Asher was named student of the year at the Campaspe Cohuna Local Learning and Employment Networks (CCLEN) annual VET in Schools Excellence Awards.

Not only is he a talented athlete but he also teaches dance at Hype Dance School.

The VET sport and recreation student threw himself in the deep end when he volunteered to teach at the school.

The awards celebrate outstanding achievements of Vocational Education and Training (VET) students within the network’s regional schools.

Asher was extremely proud to win the award and believed it demonstrated he could do anything he set his mind to.

I did warm ups, taught the classes and helped out with anything I could. My job was to support the kids and be there for them, he said.

I love the atmosphere of the kids. They love being there and having a great time.

Asher also said he was hoping to maintain involvement with dance but athletics was his main priority.

I love sprinting and I’m training six days per week. I hope to qualify for the 2020 Olympics.

Asher trains 3 times a week in the Echuca Secondary Gym under the guidance of the PE staff. He is a role model to some of our younger BAS athletes who also attend Echuca Secondary College.
